Your First Equipment
We will now add and monitor your first piece of equipment using Zebrix Control. To begin, we’ll use a simple example: a device on your network that we will monitor via a basic ping. You will need its IP address.
Adding the Equipment
Go to Equipments and click on the Add button
.
You should see a screen similar to this:
Choose a Generic brand and the IP Equipment range. Select the range of your equipment.
Add the tags and location of your equipment. See Tags and locations for more info.
Select the probe created in the previous step.
- Name: Enter a name for your equipment.
- Description: Add a description to your equipment (Markdown).
- Attributes: The Attributes section lets you declare constants that can be reused in the configuration of your zebrix equipment. Very useful for mass management using Templates. Click the lock icon
to encrypt your attributes. Once encrypted, passwords will no longer be visible to any user. - Links: This section lets you add important links related to your equipment (e.g. web interface, link to documentation, etc.)
- Under maintenance: Put the device into maintenance mode.
- Inactive: You can set your device has inactive to avoid premature subscription consumption.
Configuring a Driver
Once the equipment is created in Zebrix Control, configure a driver to monitor it.
1. Go to the Metrics page, then click on Configuration button:
.
2. Check the Ping box, then validate.
3. Click the edit button for the driver:
4. Enter the following information:
- The IP address of your equipment.
- The metric to monitor (in this case, Ping).
- The measurement frequency (e.g., 1 minute).
Then, validate the configuration.
Verification
You can now check the metric status unselecting the Configuration button. Look for the green indicator.
Congratulations! Your equipment is now being monitored by Zebrix Control.
